Power stations generate power by using a heat source to heat water which is forced through a turbine connected to an electricity generator. Here is a link to a picture of a nuclear power plant.
An animated picture on the NRC website shows this quite nicely.
The nuclear reactor heats pressurized radioactive water which in turn heats nonradioactive pressurized water in the steam generator. The steam generator water drives the turbine which creates electricity. A third loop of water is used to cool down the steam generator water so that it can be reheated to keep the turbine in motion.
