Coal fuel’s China’s booming economy, but the country’s coal mining industry has the worst safety record in the world.

Electricity consumption is on the rise across Europe, but high oil prices and a reluctance in some countries to ‘go nuclear’ is creating an energy gap. So some power companies are switching back to ‘coal’ - but this time, proponents say coal is cleaning up its act. A new generation of ‘clean coal’ power stations is due to open across the continent during the next five years. But one of the first to come on line has been met with stiff opposition in the United Kingdom. Paul Burge reports for VOA from London.

Sept. 12, 2008-Kansas Governor, Kathleen Sebelius came to Indiana coal country as a surrogate for Democrat presidential candidate, Barack Omama.

Valley Watch president, John Blair asked her about her courageous stand in Kansas to stop a coal plant and how that impacted the plans of Obama.

Sebelius’ administration this year nixed plans for a new coal plant in her state and then vetoed several attempt to override her decision by a coal thirsty state legislature.
