Railfan Exchange I: Part 4, KCS Grandview Missouri 8-17-00
Srovets asked:
I catch two trains in Grandview, one KCS mixed is waiting in the hole for a southbound BNSF Coal unit train bound for the power plant at La Cygne. Then, after the unit passes, the Northbound manifest takes off.

Same. I always hear AC’s and ES’s chugging outside the skating rink. Never hear an EMD engine go by. Always a GE unit. Love that sound hauling *** along the line.
I love the sound of GEs getting started
Could you give me a little history on the KCS are they still relavant? I mean are they owned by any class 1 rail roads like UP? I herd they are part of FEROMEX? Sorry for the question. i could look it up, but I am in the middle of getting back into the hobby after many years away from it. I have just expanded my layout to 16 ft long, so i am tryin to sort out the bugs and want to add some KCS to mt fleet. i wont add any mexican BEANER **** RR though period.
I those old/worn out sound the AC4400’s make…those 4 stroke engines are much more interesting than the 710s in EMD’s SD70macs
Hey men what tipe of locomotive is that one??
Love the sound of GE’S getting underway.
BNSF SD70MACs have good horns! The brakes on those hoppers sound terrible! A pain to the ears! KCS 2007 has a good K5LA.
Very neat hearing the GE “chug-chug-chug” exhaust sound as the 2nd train takes off. Always enjoy hearing that Nathan K5La.
I love how at 1:45 the air compressor kicks in to maintain line pressure (the “dwoop” sound) and the engine labors to get the train moving. Very nice video!
Dang! This is so cool to watch. I remember going on little car trips with my dad to watch the trains. So cool. Makes me want to work on the railroads
